In the heart of Morocco's rugged Atlas Mountains lies a world of rich cultural heritage and timeless traditions, where the Ait Atta nomads have roamed for centuries. The Ait Atta are a large tribal Berber confederation from South East of Morocco. They are divided into five big sub-tribes (khms khmas (five fifths)), legend has it that they descended from the forty sons of their common ancestor Dadda Atta. They are known for their nomadic and semi-nomadic lifestyle, their history and heritage spans for generations. Their existence revolves around the herding of goats, sheep, and camels, as well as the cultivation of small plots of land in the harsh yet beautiful landscape of the Atlas Mountains.


At the core of Ait Atta culture lies a profound respect for tradition and community. Through oral storytelling and the passing down of ancestral knowledge, the Ait Atta people preserve their unique identity and honor the wisdom of their forebears. From the intricacies of herding techniques to the art of weaving and crafting, every aspect of daily life is infused with a sense of heritage and pride.


Historically, the Ait Atta tribe has played a pivotal role in Morocco's fight for independence and in resisting colonial powers. The cuisine of the Ait Atta nomads reflects their deep connection to the land and their reliance on simple yet nourishing ingredients.
